Touching words about her Mom, Rina Johnson

Good afternoon everyone, it is such an honor to be here today to kick off the Fund A Need segment of the auction. As you already know we are here today to raise as much money as possible for Amy’s Treat and in turn help fund this year’s Fund A Need program, Respites with Rina.

Why is this so important to me? I am Rina’s daughter. My mother passed away this January from complications associated with Multiple Myeloma, which she so courageously battled for over 10 years. Without the generosity of Dr Civiello, Amy’s Treat and Michael’s patience while providing transportation, my mother’s continued treatment at Mass General would not have been possible.

But the most important part of this story is the incredible strength my mother gained by spending time “fun time” with patients fighting similar battles. It was about getting out and being amongst friends. She always said. She spent the last couple of years working with the Amy’s Treat’s foundation to coordinate fun outings for the group. It may have been the theater or a restaurant gathering or a fly fishing event. What mattered most was during that time the focus was not on a limitation or status; it was about support for their community.

Although you will not be walking out with a gift under your arm, your generous donation will be a gift of wonderful adventures for those who need it most.
